Debbie Schoppenhorst
After we read all of the letters in support of Debbie Schoppenhorst, for Practioner of the year, we were exhausted! We would like to share with you portions of their nomination letters

Here are some of their thoughts;

Having a child with a disability can be challenging at times. Debbie was always very helpful to me, especially at some of the more difficult times. She was very patient and understanding with me and made me feel at ease in our discussions. She related well with my son and always made him feel comfortable when she visited him. Debbie offered valuable support for our family as we navigated the educational system for students with disabilities for the first time.

During her tenure she has emerged as a leader within the department and has gained the respect of school administrators and teachers with whom she has been working. One of Debbie’s greatest strengths is her ability to deconstruct data and make it understandable to those who work closest with the student. Her work is now benefiting all of the elementary schools within our district.

Besides completing 100 plus evaluations, Debbie is a member of the District Autism Team (ART), an external coach for Positive Behavior Supports (PBIS), and a member of the Problem Solving Core Team. In addition, she has provided staff development to a number of district administrators, support staff, teachers and parents in the areas of RtI, PBIS, Data analysis, Discreet Trial Training and special education eligibilities and characteristics.

In December she expanded her skills by becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. with much personal sacrifice. Her skills and expertise in this area will be invaluable to students in our district.

Debbie has a wide array of skills and a relentless work ethic. She generates outstanding evaluations that are clear, comprehensive and insightful. She is committed to her job and the buildings she works with, always going above and beyond what is expected of her. Debbie always validates everyone’s opinion, especially parents and never makes anyone feel unimportant. Her wit and sense of humor make long staffing days bearable!

Needless to say, she spends much of her personal time supporting the needs of children within the district, but always does so with a positive attitude and a smile on her face. Debbie is truly a gift to the district and is highly deserving of this honor.
