Brian Burris
Brian Burris is the Sangamon Area Special Education District’s nominee for ISPA’s Practitioner of the Year Award. I nominated Brian because he is one of our most competent and reliable school psychologists, not to mention being one of our most humorous and creative. Just ask him and he will tell you so! I have had the honor of working with Brian for the last 11 years. I have watched him grow from a first year psychologist to an experienced and exceptional professional in the field.
Brian's commitment to children and the profession of school psychology is one of his greatest assets. He is a strong advocate for each child he works with, as well as for the school population as a whole.
Brian is an individual with a wonderful sense of humor. His ability to make others laugh helps put parents, students, and other school personnel at ease. His sense of humor also facilitates his ability to build the excellent rapport that he is able to establish with students, parents, and school personnel alike. One letter of recommendation stated, “The best part of working with Brian is his wonderful personality and sense of humor. He never takes himself too seriously and never forgets that behind all the difficult situations that we encounter within the school setting that we are working with individuals who matter and are always worth fighting for despite their behaviors”.
Brian also has a private practice working with children who have educational and psychological difficulties. He is considered a consummate professional by the parents of the children with whom he works. Brian also uses his skills to help youth in the community. He is an integral member of his church organization and unselfishly gives of his time to work with church youth. Youth programs, camping trips, and many other special activities are a part of his regular routine with these children and adolescents.
Most importantly, Brian is a devoted husband and father to his two young children.
I cannot think of a more deserving person for this award. Congratulations on your nomination.
