Guidelines for School-Community Partnerships
ISPA is a member of the Illinois Children's Mental Health Partnership. This entity was formed by statute following the passage of the Children's Mental Health Act of 2003. Among the tasks of the partnership was the development of a strategic plan to address the mental health needs of children and youth in Illinois.

The first goal of the plan is to develop and strengthen prevention, early intervention and treatment policies, programs and services for children. In that spirit, the partnership’s School Age Committee developed guidelines on how schools can develop partnerships with diverse community agencies, including non-traditional organizations, to ensure a comprehensive, coordinated approach to addressing children's mental health and social and emotional development.

School psychologists are well poised to use these guidelines, given their training in child development, mental health, interventions, research, and systems change. The Illinois Violence Prevention Authority, the US Department of Education, and the US Department of Health and Human Services are among the multitude of entities that offer grants in the areas of violence prevention and mental health services. These guidelines can serve as a resource in assisting schools to develop the infrastructure so necessary to enhance services and also to merit grant awards.
