School Psychologists' Attitudes Toward and Experiences Working with Transgender Students

Link to the survey:

http://uwrf.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_5uOZ5bWzpJW120A

We hope this message finds you doing well. We are currently Ed.S. students in the school psychology program at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF), working under the guidance of faculty members Drs. Todd A. Savage and Scott Woitaszewski. We are contacting you regarding a research opportunity we believe would be beneficial to your membership. We are investigating school psychologists' attitudes toward and experiences working with transgender students, a topic that to our knowledge has not been
previously explored. This research is being conducted in partial fulfillment of the Ed.S. degree in school psychology at UWRF.

Participants in this study will take a 15-20 minute online survey.

Furthermore, we would be inviting a total of 8-12 respondents to follow up with an over-the-phone interview about transgender issues and schools, if they so choose. Participant responses on the online portion will be anonymous and confidential; should people participate in the phone interview, those responses would be treated confidentially. These data will be analyzed and incorporated into a manuscript intended for publication and or professional presentation. Again, no one respondent will be identified in any of these reporting methods. There is no cost associated with participating in this study and participants will not be paid or remunerated in any other way. There are no known risks for participating in this study.

A potential benefit to the respondent is the opportunity for her or him to reflect on a topic that is becoming increasingly relevant for school psychologists. This study has been approved by our university's Human
Subjects Institutional Review Board (Protocol Number H20110-WO65).

School Psychology Practice Within the Areas of Assessment and Intervention for Students with ASD

My name is Greer Davis and I am a graduate student and research assistant in school psychology at Kent State University. Currently, my assistantship is under the supervision of Dr. Frank Sansosti, and I am assisting with several of his research projects in the area of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Specifically, I am working with Dr. Sansosti to gather data on the current state of practice for serving students with ASD among school psychologists. This project, which has current IRB approval, will consist of sending a brief survey to school psychology practitioners in a representative sample of states across the country. The results of such a study will provide important information regarding school psychology practice within the areas of assessment and intervention for students with ASD. Following is the link to the survey:

https://kent.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6LkNJD5yTrlnCCw

These results can be used to inform the current state of practice, as well as areas that are in need of improvement for the field to improve service delivery to students with ASD.

Thank you in advance for your time,

Greer Davis, M.Ed.
School Psychology Trainee & Graduate Research Assistant
Kent State University

Frank J.
School Psychologists Perceived Competence Related to Adolescent Substance Use and Abuse

Dear Fellow School Psychologist:

My name is Candice Adams and I am a school psychology graduate student at New Mexico State University. I am conducting a study titled School Psychologists Perceived Competence Related to Adolescent Substance Use and Abuse as part of my program requirements. I am requesting your participation in a brief survey.

The purpose of my research is to determine the relation of perceived competence and level of training of school psychologists related to substance use and abuse in adolescence. Further, I am interested in investigating if there are differences in perceived competence and training for school psychologists who work in middle school versus high school settings. If you choose to participate in this study you will be asked to complete a brief survey, which should take approximately 15 minutes to complete, asking questions related to knowledge of substances and substance use/abuse, levels of perceived competency in addressing substance use/abuse issues with adolescents, training and experience. Some additional demographic questions are also included. The survey is being administered via SurveyMonkey. As such, confidentiality will be maintained for every individual who chooses to participate in this study. No identifying information will be collected or compiled via SurveyMonkey. If at any time you do not feel comfortable completing this survey you are welcome to discontinue participation.

The results of this study may benefit other school psychologists as well as adolescents and their families who are facing substance use/abuse issues by providing information about the individuals who provide these services. There will be no direct benefit to you from participating in this study. It is possible that the discussion of thoughts or feelings about substance use/abuse might make you feel uncomfortable, but otherwise there are no risks associated with participation.

If you have any questions about this research, please contact the Principal Investigator at the phone number listed below. If you have any questions about your rights as a research subject, please contact the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair, through the Office of Compliance at New Mexico State University at (575) 646-7177 or at ovpr@nmsu.edu.

Your participation in this study is voluntary. If you don't wish to participate, or would like to end your participation in this research study, there will be no penalty or loss of benefits to you to which you are otherwise entitled. In other words, you are free to make your own choice about being in this study or not, and may quit at any time without penalty.

Clicking on the link below indicates that you fully understand the above research study, what is being asked of you in this study, and that you are voluntarily participating in the survey.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DK25B62

PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR:

Candice Adams
Counseling and Educational Psychology Department
New Mexico State University
(575) 312-6210

Faculty Advisor:
Dr. Elsa Arroyos-Jurado
Counseling and Educational Psychology Department
New Mexico State University
(575) 646-6589

The Challenges School Psychologists Encounter in Their School-Based Practice

My name is Rebecca Martinez and I am an associate professor in the school psychology program at Indiana University. I am conducting a national study about the challenges school psychologists encounter in their school-based practice. This study has been approved by the Indiana University IRB. The main purpose of this study is to better prepare preservice school psychology students for situations they might encounter in the field.

Summary of study:
The purpose of the current qualitative study is to understand on a national level the ethical challenges school psychologists face today. The purpose of this study is twofold. First, we seek to understand these issues in order to better prepare preservice school psychology students for situations they might encounter while in the field. Second, we want to report on the efficacy and relevance of the recently published policy document by the National Association of School Psychologists, Principles for Professional Ethics 2010.

The study consists of an online questionnaire where participants will be asked to describe ethical dilemmas, ethical transgressions or legal quandaries they have observed in their practice as school psychologists. We ask seven demographic questions and five open-ended questions. We anticipate that the survey will take 5-10 or more minutes to complete (depending on the level of detail participants choose to provide on the open-ended items). On the last item, participants are asked to enter their email address if they wish to be entered in a drawing to win one of two $50 gift certificates to Amazon.com

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the primary investigator, Dr. Rebecca S. Martinez by phone (812.856.8324) or email rsm@indiana.edu

Thank you for your time and consideration of this research request.

The survey is available by clicking or copying the address below to any browser:

https://iucsr.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3jBTQHvBphs8tGk
Respectfully,

Rebecca S.
