Attaining Bilingual Special Education Approval

School Psychologists in Illinois who work directly with children who derive from a bilingual background are required to possess the Bilingual Special Education Approval credential. This entails successfully completing one of two courses:

Assessment of the Bilingual Child and Psychological/Educational Assessment of the LEP Student with Disabilities.

After taking the Language Proficiency Exam, applicants and examinees may need to call Joline Redy (1-800-845-8749) in Springfield in order to obtain the PASS/FAIL results. Once one has successfully completed the single course requirement and passed the Language Proficiency Exam in the target population language, one must submit an application for Bilingual Special Education Approval.
